   Our ripple decking is made of white pine and comes in lengths up to 16.’ Other species of wood are available on a special order basis. Typical thickness of the decking is 1 ½” after milling, but some applications may require a greater thickness where spanning requirements are increased. Therefore, special orders for decking up to 4” thick can be filled. Standard decking is 6” wide and lays 5” with one inch being used in the ripple overlap. Our optional eight-inch decking lays 7” wide. The primary use for this decking is on the second floor deck. It is fastened directly to the second floor timber joists and used as the platform on which people walk on the second floor. Because the primary species of wood is white pine, the decking is not intended to be a finished surface on the second floor area. However, nearly half of our customers do use it as a finished surface above. If used as a finished surface you should be prepared for the softer pine to show wear after some time. Most people who intend to use the decking as a finished surface will fasten the decking through the tongue so that the nails are not visible. The most secure way to nail the decking is right through the face. This eliminates squeaks that might occur if fastened through the tongue only. Using construction adhesive between the joists and the deck also helps to eliminate squeaking and improves the bond. The underside of the decking is milled with a v-groove, and it is this v-grooved surface that you will see if you are standing on the first floor and looking up at the second floor system.  
Tongue and groove paneling is what you see most often on interior partitions and ceilings of log homes. This paneling is available in White Pine and in widths of 4”, 6” and 8.” Other species are available by special order. The product will actually lay approximately ¾” less than the total width with ½” of the width lost in the milling, and another ¼” used in the overlap of the tongue and groove.
Another option is a pre-finished paneling where two coats of a water-based finish have already been applied. This option can save you a lot of time in preparing the wood for finish, the finishing itself, and then the cleanup. Our tongue and groove paneling is end matched. An end matched paneling product has the same tongue and groove milling on the ends of the wood as it does on its sides. This gives you a more attractive seam where the pieces butt together, and also helps to keep the paneling surface level. One of the nice things about an end-matched product is that there is very little waste. If, for instance, you need a 6’ piece of paneling to finish a row, you can start with an 8’ piece, cut off 2’, and then install the 6’ piece. You can then use the 2’ left over piece as the starter for the next row.
