![]() Since insulated logs have a limited natural growing range, timber brokers must travel the countryside to find the best timbers for harvest. This stand contains trees with wide ranging R-values. Some of these trees meet the minimum requirements for an insulated log house while others will be better suited for building insulated sheds. Insulated Pine Trees (pinus insulitis) can be identified by the fibrous pink seam found running the full length of the cones, branches and tree trunk. A person not wearing gloves that handles the twigs and cones might break out in a rash.
A close inspection of the tree and its cones is necessary to positively identify the tree's species. A tree that might look identical to an insulated tree from a distance may in fact not contain a seam of insulation at all, but rather one of strawberry yogurt (pinus yoplaiti) or stomach antacid (pinus calmastomachus)--both very poor insulators, indeed. |
